European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen said after a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday that India has an important role in ending the Ukraine war. Von Der Leyen said in a post on X, we were happy to talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We warmly welcome India’s continuous cooperation with President Zelancesi. While giving details of the telephone conversation, Ursula von Der Leyen emphasized that “India has an important role in helping Russia end its aggressive war and paving the way towards peace.”

Describing this struggle as a global concern, Von Der Leyen said that this war will have global security consequences and will weaken economic stability. So it is a risk for the whole world. Considering the future of the European Union-India relations, he said that the two sides are planning to agree on a joint strategic agenda at the next European Union-India summit as soon as possible. They also reiterated the commitment to complete the conversation on the free trade agreement by the end of the year, but also emphasized that “progress is necessary.”
