Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis proposed to consider Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to join hands with the ruling NDA alliance. Addressing the Legislative Council, Fadnavis said in a light but sharp manner that Uddhav ji, till 2029, there is no scope for us to sit in opposition. But if you want to come here (in the ruling party), it can be considered. However, this decision should be taken in a unique way. Fadnavis gave this statement about the outgoing opposition leader Ambadas Danve in the Legislative Council, who is from Uddhav’s Shiv Sena faction. The Chief Minister praised Danve’s original ideology and said that no matter what Ambadas Danve is – whether in the ruling party or in the opposition, his true beliefs are vested in Hindutva.

After a recent meeting with Uddhav Thackeray, a direct offer by Fadnavis in the assembly is being seen as an important political initiative in the emerging political scenario of Maharashtra. This statement came a few months before the important Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Currently, BMC is under the control of the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav, although the seats of BJP and Shiv Sena were almost equal in the last elections. Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray, along with his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, recently opposed the state government’s move to make Hindi a mandatory language in Maharashtra schools. This unity was demonstrated between the two after about two decades of political rivalry. However, despite public appearance, ideological differences remain. The Shiv Sena remains uncomfortable with the offensive stance of MNS against North Indian communities, causing doubt on any permanent political alliance between the two parties.
