Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday warned that anyone trying to disrupt festival celebrations will be immediately sent to jail. He announced that the state government is providing free LPG cylinders as Diwali gifts to 1 crore 86 lakh Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, reiterating his government’s focus on women’s welfare and safety.

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said that if anyone tries to disrupt the joy and enthusiasm of this festival, jail bars will be waiting for him; Whoever they are, they will be put behind the bars without any delay. Festivals and celebrations should be celebrated in a peaceful and harmonious manner. In the last eight years, all the festivals of every community in Uttar Pradesh have been celebrated peacefully… This is no longer a government bowing before the rioters.
Addressing beneficiaries and officials at the free LPG cylinder distribution programme, the Chief Minister congratulated the recipients of assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and named his cabinet colleagues Suresh Khanna, Dinesh Sharma, Sanjay Seth and Mayor Sushma Kharkwar. He described the distribution of free cylinders to “1 crore 86 lakh beneficiaries of the state” ahead of Diwali as a Diwali gift and highlighted the government’s decision to provide free cooking gas twice a year on the occasion of Holi and Diwali in 2021.
Chief Minister Yogi said that the aim of this initiative is to encourage mass participation in festivals and provide relief to families, “your money is spent on such cooking gas.” He further said that it is the responsibility of a public welfare government to provide free cylinders twice a year so that the benefits reach the needy, the poor, the downtrodden and the underprivileged, and stressed that eligible people should get such facilities “without any hindrance”.

Recalling the Rashtriya Ujjwala Yojana, he said that “for the first time after independence, this scheme was not given to any poor before 2014” and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expanding the reach of the scheme. He further said that “in 11 years, 11 crore poor people have received free LPG cylinders, including 1.86 crore people in Uttar Pradesh alone.” He further said that the scheme has provided relief to families who earlier used to cook with wood, coal or kerosene, and said that women have especially benefited from it.
