The Delhi government claims that it has such a big infrastructure to clean water that it can clean 80% of the dirty water produced in Delhi.
Only 2% of the Yamuna river falls in Delhi and 80% of the pollution of Yamuna is from Delhi. So far Rs 8372 crore has been spent to clean Yamuna and 37 sewage treatment plants have been set up in Delhi and as a result, the Yamuna river passing through the country’s capital is the most polluted river in the country.
The irony is that the Delhi government claims that it has such a major infrastructure to clean the water that it can clean 80% of the dirty water produced in Delhi and in the next two months this capacity will have to clean 100 percent dirty water.
The Center for Science and Environment (CSE) has found in its new report that if the Treaty water of Delhi’s STP was transported directly to the Yamuna, Yamuna would have become alive again. But the situation is that 33 out of 37 STPs are far away from Yamuna coasts.
Their treated water is already flowing dirty water in the 22 drains through which it reaches the Yamuna, so there is no benefit of treating the water. Only 10 percent of Delhi’s Treaty Water is used in work like horticulture.

Work on 11 projects in Yamuna Action Plan-3 continues
In Yamuna Action Plan-1 and 2, Rs 1514.70 crore was spent on cleaning the Yamuna. The Delhi government spent Rs 6856.91 crore from 2017 to 2022 on the cleanliness of Yamuna. Now under Yamuna Action Plan-3, work on 11 projects is going on for cleaning Yamuna in Delhi 2009.12 crore rupees.
CSE Director General Sunita Narayan said that 84 જ્% of the pollution received by Yamuna from Delhi is coming from only two drains Najafgarh Nala and Shahdara Nalla.

Pollution of Yamuna river is getting worse
In the 9 months after the monsoon, there is negligible water in the river and only 22 drains of the city flows. Yamuna enters Delhi from Palla village and the level of oxygen in the Yamuna is 5 to 6 mg per liter until ISBT arrives from there, but this quantity becomes zero as soon as ISBT comes.
Rather, the biological oxygen demand of Yamuna in the front of Delhi increases by 40-50 times the limit. In the dry season, the number of features in one liter of water reaches more than 2 lakhs.
