The Pope had pneumonia in February, after which he had to be hospitalized for five weeks. On 14 February, he was admitted to Jameli Hospital in Rome. He initially had a serious breath problem, but later discovered that he had an infection in the lungs, which turned into pneumonia in both lungs.

According to doctors, his condition became very critical during this disease and he reached close to death. On March 23, he was discharged from the hospital and returned to his residence in Vatican to rest. Doctors had said that it may take at least two months to recover them completely.
