A strong earthquake tremors were felt on Saturday morning in Papua New Guinea. According to the American Geological Survey (USGS), the intensity of the earthquake was measured 6.9 and the center was 194 km east of Kimbe town of New Britain Island. The earthquake occurred at a depth of only 10 kilometers, allowing it shallow and more effective.
Soon after the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued, fearing the waves of 1 to 3 meters high in some coastal parts of Papua New Guinea. Small waves up to 0.3 meters were also warned for nearby Solomon Islands.
However, all these warnings were canceled within a few hours after assessing the situation. So far no official information has been received about the loss of any kind of life and property. About 5 lakh people live on New Britain Island.
