Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the mantra of Arogya Param Dhan on World Health Day.

“Arogyam Paraman Bhagyaam” means to be healthy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the message of healthy life through this verse on the occasion of World Health Day.

He said, “On this occasion of World Health Day, let us recreate our commitment to create a healthy world.”

Modi spoke of continuous attention to the health sector. He said, ‘We will invest in health sector, because only with good health, the foundation of a prosperous society can be laid.

Prime Minister Modi- Lifestyle changes challenged the health of Indians

Prime Minister Modi shared a video on X, in which he expressed concern over the increasing problem of obesity and appealed to people to reduce the use of oil in their food by 10 percent.

Describing health as the biggest capital and fate, he said, ‘Lifestyle changes have challenged the health of Indians, and obesity has emerged as a serious threat.

The Prime Minister, citing a report, said that by 2050 more than 440 million people in India will be affected by obesity. Prime Minister Modi also insisted on making exercise a part of his lifestyle.

WHO started World Health Day in 1950

World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April. Its purpose is to draw attention to global health problems and make people aware of living a healthy life.

This day is celebrated to explain the importance of health and intensify efforts towards improvement of health services. It was started by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1950.

Its purpose was to provide similar services for every class with the progress and problems in the health sector around the world. WHO was formed on 7 April 1948.

This year, the theme of WHO on World Health Day is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures”, which points to a good start and healthy future.

India is also progressing in the health sector. Several health initiatives have been initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, including important programs like Ayushman Bharat and National Health Mission.

These initiatives have improved in India to reduce maternal and infant mortality in India, expansion of digital healthcare, and strengthening public health composition.

Health sector improves in India

The condition of women in terms of health in India has improved before. However, the problem of anemia in Indian women remains a major problem.

According to WHO, more than 50 percent of women in India are victims of anemia. The Government of India runs many schemes for women, including Janani Suraksha Yojana, Janani Shishu Safety Program, Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Safe Maternity Campaign.

Maternal mortality (MMR) has also improved in India. In the year 2019-2021, maternal mortality in India has been recorded as 113 per 100,000 living births. In 2015-2017, this figure was 174 per 100,000 per 100,000.

According to the UN-Mmeig 2020 report “Trends in Matter Mortality”, India’s MMR was 384 in 2000, it has come down to 103 in 2020. While the global MMR has come down from 339 to 223 in 2000 in 2000. The average annual rate of reduction in global MMR was 2.07 percent in the period of 2000–2020, while India’s MMR has decreased by 6.36 percent, lower than global maternal death.

India’s Digital Healthcare Infrastructure

India has also taken important steps towards digitization in health service. Covid-19 was a boost to digitization in the health sector at the time of epidemic.

  • The Government of India launched the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) in 2020.
  • NDHM is a digital health technology. It was launched with Health ID, Personal Health Records, Digi Doctors and Health Facility Registry.

With this, under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, their health records were made available to citizens online.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which started in 2018, has been provided health insurance to more than 10 crore poor families, which has helped to strengthen their economic condition. The scheme is considered to be the biggest health insurance scheme in India, which provides better health services to poor and weaker sections.
