Tamil Nadu minister Durai Muraugan said on Saturday that the state government will not arrest actor-royalty and TV chief Vijay in the case of death of 41 people in a stampede on 27 September. Murugan said that if there is evidence, the government will perform its duty. Usually, every party knows how many people will attend the meetings organized by it. Parties should choose the venue according to their expected crowd. He said that a committee is being formed to review the security protocol for political rallies.

There was a stampede during a TVK campaign in Karur. After the incident, cases were registered against TVK General Secretary N Anand, Joint General Secretary Nirmal Kumar and others. The Madras High Court has questioned the role of Vijay and party members and exposed his absence from the scene after the tragedy. Madurai Peeth of the court said that Vijay fled from the spot and the party did not show any regret. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed under the leadership of IG Asra Garg of Chennai North Region to investigate the incident, whose check files are being transferred from Karur to Chennai.

During the hearing, Justice Senthilkumar criticized both the organizers and the police for the operation of the event, as well as the confusion on the misleading announcements by TVK on social media. The court has also directed action against party leader Adhav Arjun and is considering a PIL to review the permission protocol permission for future rallies.
