In an important political development before the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray held an important meeting with former party councilors at Sena Bhavan. According to the information, the primary agenda was to assess the preparations for the election and seek possible alliances. According to the internal sources in the party, during the discussion in a closed room, Uddhav asked a sharp question – should Shiv Sena (UBT) consider an alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj Thackeray? According to sources, the reaction was highly positive.
Former councilors allegedly told Uddhav that shaking hands with MNS could be strategically beneficial. Some attendees are believed to have said, “The atmosphere is favorable for such an alliance in Mumbai.” He suggested that the army-minded alliance can strengthen the Marathi vote and strengthen the opposition against the ruling BJP. In response, Uddhav indicated caution and consensus. He assured the attendees, “I will take a final decision on any alliance only after taking all of you into confidence.”
He also urged the party workers to remain united and loyal and said that “there will be more such meetings in the coming days.” It is worth noting here that Raj Thackeray split from the United Shiv Sena in 2005 and formed his own party next year. In the past, the MNS president opposed and supported Uddhav Thackeray’s former ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on various occasions.
