Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday sarcasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described him as a procurement of himself and asked if he would give information about his Canadian counterpart Mark Karney to be India’s third largest economy during his meetings at the G-7 summit. Carney had justified inviting India to the G-7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta later this year, saying that some countries should also attend the summit to discuss the summit.

He said that while addressing the media after the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on May 24, 2025, the CEO of NITI Aayog dramatically announced that when he was speaking, India has become the third largest economy in the world, leaving behind Japan. Ramesh said in a post on X, “Now the Prime Minister of Canada – a prestigious professional economist who has been the Central Bank of Bank of Canada as well as the Governor of Bank of England – says that India is the fifth largest economy in the world.”

Ramesh said that perhaps, India’s first SUV – self -proclaimed Vishwaguru – can update her Canadian counterpart during the meeting of the two in a few days. After inviting Modi to the G7 Summit, Carney said that India is the fifth largest economy and effectively, the most populous country in the world and the center of many supply chains and hence, it makes sense to invite the country to the summit. Modi received an invitation for the G7 Summit on Friday and agreed to participate in it. He has also joined the last five G7 meetings. India is not a member of G7, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, France.
