Will Binny, 70 years old, will remain BCCI President even after the sports bill came out?

The current president of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) Roger Binny turned 70 on Saturday but at present there is no clarity whether he will continue in the post till the annual general meeting (AGM) to be held in September or will leave the post with immediate effect and Vice President Rajiv Shukla will take charge as the interim chief. Another turn in this case is that the National Sports Bill is going to exist soon.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandavia will present it during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. There is a provision for any administrator to increase the upper limit of age to remain in the post from 70 to 75. The Constitution of BCCI, however, has been prepared by the Justice Lodha Committee and the age limit of the board president has been fixed at 70 years.

The BCCI is part of the National Sports Federation (NSF), so it is also likely to come under the purview of this bill when the sports bill is implemented. The BCCI may not depend on government grants, but the new Sports Bill will have to be followed to be a part of the Los Angeles Olympics of Indian cricket teams.

When ‘PTI’ contacted sources close to Binny, it was found that 70 -year -old Binny would contact the Board Secretary Devjit Saikia and the Legal Department in the case. According to the draft of the National Sports Bill which is with PTI, “The person should not be more than 70 years old on the last date of enrollment for the Executive Committee.” In the international charter of the concerned game, it said, “If there is permission to contest elections for a person between 70 and 75 years in the international charter of the concerned game, he can complete his tenure.” ,

If you look at the provision related to age in this draft, then if a person is 69 years and 364 days on the date of enrollment and he is elected to the post of officer, then he can continue his entire tenure beyond the age of 70 after the bill is implemented. Binny has completed 70 years on Saturday, which is the age limit of BCCI for any official.

If the new Sports Bill is implemented by August, it can retain the 1983 World Cup hero in the top position. In such a situation, he can continue his tenure of at least three years. However, there is no provision like FIFA or International Olympic Committee in the Executive Council of ICC (International Cricket Council), Binny can continue his term till the age of 75 years, if the powerful people of BCCI want.

The BCCI has the option to appoint vice -president Rajiv Shukla as the interim president or waiting for the sports bill to come into existence.
