Amid significant delays in delivery of indigenous light fighter aircraft system by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Tejas MK1’s delivery due to delay in engine supply from American firm GE, the Indian Air Force chief once exploded that not a single defense project was completed on time as a promise made from the armed forces. Speaking at a conference, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said that the industry should follow the deadline or not promise that it cannot be fulfilled. In February 2021, there was a deal of 83 Tejas MK1A fighter jets worth Rs 48,000 crore between Air Force and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), but not a single aircraft has been delivered yet. Its delivery was to begin in March 2024.

Air Chief Marshal said that the deadline is a big issue. Therefore, once the deadline is given, I think not a single project is completed on time. Therefore, this is something that we have to look at. Why do we make a promise that cannot be fulfilled? When signing the contract, sometimes we are sure that it is not going to happen, but we signed the contract. The Air Force chief said that the nature of war is changing every day with new technology. “Operation Sindoor has clearly told us in which direction we are going and what we need in the future. So we need to do a lot of work to re -organize our thought processes, which is already running.

Appreciating the approval of the construction program of indigenous fifth generation fighter jet, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said, “AMCA-UNAT medium fighter aircraft have also been approved for private industry participation, which is a big step and today the country has similar confidence and I believe that it will be confident of the future in future.
