Why is there no mention of caste census? Congress raised questions about Census 2027

Years

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the government for not adopting the Telangana model, which includes detailed socio-economic data on the basis of caste. He emphasized the party’s confidence in the need for this approach.

The Congress party has termed the government’s notification for the 16th census of India as a ‘passive cracker’ due to its silence on caste inclusion. He says that this may be a sign of another policy change from the government. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the government for not adopting the Telangana model, which includes detailed socio-economic data on the basis of caste. He emphasized the party’s confidence in the need for this approach.

Jairam Ramesh claimed that in August 1991, the BJP withdrew support from the VP Singh government on the Mandal Commission and in response to the Mandal movement, he started the camel movement. So let’s not go into this history. I can also tell how the RSS opposed the Constitution of India from November 1949 and how Yogi Adityanath opposed reservation, how the RSS leaders opposed reservation.

The Congress leader said that according to the seventh schedule of the Indian Constitution, the census is the responsibility of the central government. If the Center does not want to do census, then the states have no choice but caste survey. Several states including Telangana, Karnataka and Bihar have conducted caste surveys. The Prime Minister has been continuously opposing the caste census. On 28 April 2024, he called the caste census seekers as Urban Naxal. He filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on 21 September 2021 and said that we are against caste census and we have no intention of doing caste census.

He said that today’s gazette notification states that there will be a census at the end of October 2026 in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal and the rest of the country will be census in March 2027. It does not mention the word caste census. So my question is whether the Prime Minister has changed his view again? Why is there no mention of caste census?
