Sanjay Kapoor died on 12 June 2025, even after a month, he focuses on him, this time over his family alleged heritage disputes. His mother, Rani Kapoor, raised doubts over his sudden demise, which was described as a heart attack. He also indicated that someone is trying to capture the family’s legacy. Soon the headlines came on Sanjay’s third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapoor.
Priya has been appointed as a non-executive director of family business, gold comstar,. According to reports, he has changed his name to ‘Priya Sanjay Kapoor’. It is also being said that Safira, daughter of her first marriage, has removed her nickname ‘Chatwal’ and kept ‘Kapoor’. Although this has not been confirmed, this change has given rise to many speculation. Safira does not show any surname on her Instagram account, and ‘Priya S Kapoor’ is written on Priya’s handle, so it can mean ‘Sanjay’ or ‘Sachdev’.

Will the step daughter Safira inherit?
At the center of this legal and emotional storm, Sanjay’s third wife Priya Sachdev Kapoor’s daughter is the condition of Safira, who was born from her previous marriage to businessman Vikram Chatwal. According to Indian succession laws, the step -child has no legal right over the property until it is formally adopted. According to reports, Sanjay had actually adopted Safira, and if it was legally certified, she would have become successor along with her other children. But there is a complicated turn in this adoption.
Will Sanjay Kapoor’s step daughter inherit?
Sanjay Kapoor had three children: his ex -wife Karishma Kapoor has two biological children – Adhara (20) and Kian (14) – and a son from his current wife Priya Sachdev Kapoor, Ajayius (6). Priya also has a daughter named Safira, who is from her previous marriage to businessman Vikram Chatwal. Whether or not Safira will get a share in Sanjay’s property, it depends entirely on whether the will is present or not and what is written in it. Legally, the step -child does not inherit until it is formally adopted.

Observers believe that this rebranding is not just symbolic – it can be a strategic step to strengthen its position in the battle of heritage.

Karishma Kapoor’s children: financially safe, but out of the empire?
Sanjay Kapoor had two children from Bollywood actress Karishma Kapoor – Samaira (20) and Qian (14). Although the divorce of the couple in 2016 ended their marriage, it did not reduce Sanjay’s responsibilities as a father. According to media reports, Bonds of ₹ 14 crore were gifted to Adhara and Kian, and each was guaranteed a monthly income of ₹ 10 lakh – which is a sign of Sanjay’s long -term financial plan. Apart from this, Karishma Kapoor was also owned by a family house, who was once of Sanjay’s father, Dr. Surinder Kapoor. But when it comes to the promoter stake through Sona Commentar or Aryas Investments Private Limited, there is no indication of any managerial or financial role of Adhara and Kian. Their legacy is quite large, however, looks more personal than corporate.

Legal wife and biological son: Priya and Ajayius at the center
As his legal life partner at the time of Sanjay’s death, Priya Sachdev Kapoor is automatically entitled to a large part of his property – if there is no will not to the opposite. Even more important is that his 6 -year -old son Ajayius is a direct legal successor, whose property and his stake in the gold comstar, especially the RK Family Trust, where Sanjay was the only beneficiary, is claimed. After the death of Sanjay Kapoor, there has been upheaval not only between the courts and the heirs, but also in the gold comstar boardroom. In a letter to SEBI and the company’s shareholders, Sanjay’s mother Rani Kapoor claimed an explosive allegation, “I was emotionally broken and I was forced to sign the documents that I had not seen. The annual general meeting is a betrayal with family heritage.” He also objected to Priya’s appointment as non-executive director and accused the board of bypassing family counseling and allowing outsiders to represent the interests of the Kapoor family. However, the company has issued a rebuttal, stating that Rani Kapoor had no shares since 2019 and all board appointments including Priya followed the appropriate procedure and the shareholders’ approval.
Despite these assurances, the shares of Sona Comstar declined by 7% after Sanjay’s death, indicating concern about leadership and succession among investors. The board issued a statement in the hope of removing concerns, “The dedication to their foresight, values and excellence has left an indelible heritage for the company. We assure our customers, professional partners, employees and shareholders that our operations and future will remain unchanged by respecting their heritage.”
