When did the surgical strike occurred 6 times under the rule of UPA? Congress counted date, DGMO does not have any records

There has been a sharp reaction among political parties after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s recent remarks on India’s surgical strike. Throor, who is leading the multi -party delegation abroad, said that India had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) for the first time in 2016 to conduct a surgical strike on the terrorist structure – the comment was immediately challenged, including his own party people. In his speech in Panama, Tharoor said that the action taken in response to the Uri attack in September 2016 was unprecedented. He said that for the first time India crossed the LoC and attacked terrorist bases – this did not happen even in the Kargil war.

The Congress left no stone unturned to remove itself from his comments, but also used the opportunity to repeat its long -standing claim that the UPA government had authorized a similar military operations across the border during its tenure. Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala defended Tharoor’s credibility, but said that he was factually wrong on the issue. Surjewala said that the surgical strike in 2016 was not new. Our army has also carried out such operations under the UPA too. The Congress posted a list of six alleged surgical strikes conducted between 2008 and 2014, including the action taken in Poonch, Kel and Neelam Valley, emphasizing the priority of decisive action rather than the party’s campaigning. The caption with the video shared on X was, “No noise. No PR. Only decisive action.

Repeating Randeep Surjewala’s 2018 claims, the Congress has once again listed six surgical strikes allegedly carried out during the UPA period. According to the recent post on the party’s X, these operations included a strike in the Bhattal sector of Poonch on June 19, 2008 and another strike in the Sharda sector across the Neelam River Valley in Kel between 31 August to 1 September 2011. However, the BJP did not take long to deny these claims. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shared the reply received in 2018 under the Right to Information (RTI), stating that there is no record of surgical strikes before September 2016 as per the Directorate General of Military Operations (DGMO).
