Cyber attack cases are constantly coming up worldwide. Now a large cyber spanese operation has been revealed. It targeted Microsoft’s sharepoint server. About 100 different institutions have been victims in this operation so far. The biggest thing is that the list of victims of this cyber attack also includes the US National Atomic Safety Administration (NNSA). NNSA manages the country’s nuclear arsenal. Microsoft has confirmed that Chinese hackers were behind the cyber attack on the sharepoint server. According to the company, these hackers targeted the servers who run on the on-primesies system, ie by companies in their own data centers. Hackers tried to steal business data by taking advantage of the weaknesses. However, Microsoft’s cloud service has been protected from this attack.

How did China’s name come in
Microsoft has publicly disclosed that three threats such as Linen Typhoon, Violet Typhoon and Storm-2603 have been tracked. They were actively using this vulnerability to attack internet-fesing Sharepoint servers. Two of these groups are estimated to be connected to the Chinese intelligence agencies, while the third group is investigated. In the published blog post, Microsoft said that Microsoft has seen two designated Chinese nation-state elements, linen typhoon and violet typhoon taking advantage of these vulnerabilities by targeting internet-facing Sharepoint servers. In addition, we have tracked another China-based threat, which has been tracked as Storm-2603. The disclosure is made amidst a comprehensive cyber exploitation campaign, which is estimated to be involved in many hacking institutions. According to Microsoft and private safety firms involved in the investigation, other groups other than China have also started taking advantage of the same Sharepoint flaw to infiltrate goals.

Who is affected in America?
Investigators have confirmed that at least two US federal agencies have been affected by this violation. An American official involved in the response to the incident said that the number could be four to five or more if the situation worsened. Another official confirmed that the number of affected agencies is probably more than the publicly accepted number. According to a report by Bloomberg, the National Atomic Safety Administration (NNSA) was included in the institutions that were infiltrated. The Chinese Embassy in Washington, reiterating its standard status on cyber crime, replied to questions asked about the incident, saying that China strongly opposed and competes with all types of cyber attacks and cyber crime.
