Hadaios, who in the last 24 hours refers to thousands of posts around the world as it is virus who killed the wife of actress Jean Hakman, is a pathogen of rodents transmitted to humans, especially when they come into contact with their infected secretions or dust containing them.
This virus can also be transmitted by bite or scratching from an infected rodent but this rarely happens.
It is worth noting, however, that Handaius is not an individual virus, but a family of viruses with a different geographical distribution on the planet. These viruses also cause different clinical diseases.
These diseases are not common, but not even unknown in Europe. This is said by the European Center for Disease Control & Prevention (ECDC) … On the contrary, hundreds of people in the European Union are infected every year by charity. In 2023, for example, the outbreaks approached 1,900 in 19 EU and European Economic countries.
Over 60% of them were recorded in two countries (Finland and Germany). Greece reported a case. Three deaths were also recorded by infection by Handai in equal number of other countries (Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia).
What does the dude causes
According to ECDC, the Handaius causes three main clinical syndromes. Are the following:
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). It is mainly caused by the so -called Seoul, Puumala (PUUV) and DOBRAVA (DOBV). Everyone is widespread in Europe
Epidemic nephropathy. It is a mild form of HFRS bleeding fever. Caused by the Puumala Chandelo
Pulmonary Syndrome by Hadaio. It can be caused by the Andes, Sin Nombre and some others. These viruses are widespread on the American continent
The symptoms of hemorrhagic fever
The symptoms that each syndrome causes are different, depending in part with the dude that causes them. Their gravity is also varied, as they range from subclinical (not perceived) to very serious.
According to the US Disease Control & Prevention Center (CDC), hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome usually causes symptoms 1-2 weeks after infection. In rare cases it may take up to 8 weeks.
When the dude causes bleeding fever, the patient suddenly has symptoms such as:
Severe headaches
Pain in the middle and abdomen
Fever/chills
Nausea
Blurred vision
Patients may also have blushing in the face, inflammation or blushing in the eyes or skin rash. Later they develop other symptoms such as:
Low blood pressure (hypotension)
Reduced blood flow (acute shock)
Internal bleeding from escape (leak) of blood vessels
Acute renal failure that can cause severe fluid retention
Complete recovery usually takes several weeks to months. Depending on the haemorrhagic fever, the mortality rate ranges from 1% to 15%. Handai Hantaan and Dobrava usually cause more serious infections. On the contrary, the Seoul, Saaremaa, and Puumala usually cause milder infections. That is why they have the lowest mortality (below 1%).
The symptoms of the pulmonary syndrome
This syndrome was developed, according to Santa Fe’s Forensic Service, by Jin Huckman’s wife. It is a serious and often deadly disease that affects the lungs. Symptoms usually start 1-8 weeks after exposure of the patient to the contaminated rodent.
The first symptoms of the syndrome are fatigue, fever and muscle aches. The muscles most commonly affected by Handai are the large (on the thighs, back, hips, sometimes shoulders).
Half of patients also develop headaches, dizziness, chills and gastrointestinal symptoms such as:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Four to 10 days after the onset of symptoms, the patient begins to develop cough and shortness of breath. It may also feel tight in the chest, as its lungs are filled with liquid. Unfortunately, a significant proportion of patients (reach 38%) do not manage to keep alive.
The ECDC stresses that there is no specific treatment for the infections caused by the dude. This is extremely important to prevent prevention, which consists of avoiding contact with rodent secretions and disinfection of contaminated areas.
