External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended the BRICS Summit for India. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Lula de Silva were also present. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to go to this summit earlier from India. But finally External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar joined and spoke. The purpose of this summit was to discuss business challenges arising out of tariff policies of America. The US has imposed a 50 percent tariff on countries like India and Brazil.

In this meeting, without naming US President Donald Trump, Jaishankar said that the current situation of the world has become a cause of real concern. The multilateral system seems to be failing in front of different global challenges. The global trading system should be based on open, fair approach. Without naming US President Donald Trump, Jaishankar said that increasing obstacles, making transactions difficult will not help. Business should always be smooth.
