Nine people died in a gruesome road accident on Friday in Purulia district of West Bengal. The accident took place on National Highway 18 near Namshol in Balrampur police station area, when the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony. In Namasol, Bolero collided face to face with a high speed truck. The victim was boarding a Bolero vehicle going from Adbana village of Barabazar police station area of Purulia going to Tilitand in Neemdih police station area of Jharkhand.

A police official said that the accident occurred on National Highway-18 in Namasol village within the boundary of Balrampur police station in the district at around 6.30 am. Saumydeep Malik, in-charge of Balrampur police station, said, “A face-to-face collision between an SUV and a truck on the highway, in which all nine people in a four-wheeler died.” The police is investigating the case.

The collision was so strong that the vehicle was damaged beyond identity. The collision was so strong that the SUV was completely damaged. Local residents and emergency response teams immediately reached the spot and tried to save the passengers. Despite the efforts, all nine persons were declared dead at a nearby primary health center. A local eyewitness described the scene as frightening: “The collision was very strong. We tried to help, but the disadvantage was very serious.”
The police started investigation, suspected of driving a vehicle at a high speed, Purulia’s Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) confirmed the incident and said that a detailed investigation was going on to find out the exact cause of the accident. Initial conclusions give a possible reason to drive a vehicle at a fast pace behind this tragedy and the driver’s negligence.

Forensic teams are also investigating the debris to connect the order of incidents. The wave of mourning in the villages has been immersed in mourning the home village of the victims. What was a happy family opportunity turned into an unimaginable tragedy. Officers are working closely with the bereaved families to help in the identity of the dead bodies and to help in the funeral.
