Addressing the international conference on the conservation of glaciers in Dusamba, Tajikistan, Sharif said that today the world is facing fresh mark of usage traditional weapons in Gaza, which has left deep wounds. As it was not enough, now we are looking at a dangerous new low level- the handling of water.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif made a controversial comparison in a provocative statement between a humanitarian crisis in Gaza and a dispute with water sharing with India and accused New Delhi of “making water weapons” against Pakistan.
The comment has come amid increasing tension between India and Pakistan, after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22, India decided to postpone the Indus Water Treaty, killing 26 citizens. Since then, India has said that unless Pakistan does not take verification against terrorism, there can be no conversation with it.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, Sharif claimed that India was using water as a pressure tool and warned that Islamabad would not allow New Delhi to cross the “red line” by putting the lives of millions through unilateral action on the treaty. The Government of India has strongly dismissed the allegations. Citing frequent violations of cross-border terrorism and the 1960s spirit of the 1960s for decades, Indian officials have claimed that suspending the Indus Water Treaty is a response to continuous inaction against terrorist organizations operating from Pakistan’s own land.
