A wanted criminal was injured in an encounter with police in Delhi’s Narela industrial area. Officials gave this information on Friday. He was caught and immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated, they said.
The police team had received information that the accused would come to that area on a black scooter and would also have a gun. Acting on the information, the police also seized his weapon.
“When a scooter matching the description was seen near G Block of Narela Industrial Area, the police team tried to stop it,” a senior police officer said. The scooter rider fired two bullets at the police. In self-defence, the police retaliated by firing three bullets, one of which hit his right leg.
Police said that the injured person has been identified as Aftab Alam alias Atti, resident of Bawana. According to officials, Aftab is a habitual criminal and is involved in several cases of snatching, robbery and murder registered in various police stations.
The police have confiscated his scooter and also recovered a weapon from him. Officials said the matter is being investigated and legal action has been initiated.
