VP Elections: CP Radhakrishnan gets AIADMK’s support, Palaniswami said- This is a golden opportunity for Tamil Nadu

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday, Maharashtra Governor C.P. Congratulated Radhakrishnan on his nomination for the post of Vice President and described it as a moment of pride for Tamil Nadu. Earlier in the day, Palaniswami, who worshiped at the Annamalaiar temple in Thiruvannamalai, told reporters that the selection of Radhakrishnan reflects the state’s recognition at the national level. Palaniswami said that today we have received good news. He said that CP Radhakrishnan of Tamil Nadu has been given the opportunity to contest for the post of Vice President.

Palaniswami further said that I make a heartfelt appeal to all the MPs of Tamil Nadu, whether they are associated with any party, to support and ensure their victory. This is a golden opportunity for Tamil Nadu, as it is opening the way for a Tamil person to become the Vice President of India. This is a matter of great pride for the state. On Sunday, BJP national president JP Nadda declared Radhakrishnan a candidate for the Vice Presidential election, for which elections will be held on 9 September. The party’s parliamentary board, after discussing with its coalition partners and opposition party, decided unanimously to ensure the Vice Presidential election smoothly.

Chandrapuram Ponusamy Radhakrishnan is currently working as the 24th Governor of Maharashtra since 31 July 2024. Earlier, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024. He also took over the additional charge of Telangana Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry between March and July 2024. Senior BJP leader, Radhakrishnan, was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Coimbatore and earlier served as Tamil Nadu BJP state president.

Congress has CP by NDA Criticizing Radhakrishnan as the Vice Presidential candidate, he is called another RSS man. The tenure of the Vice President is five years, however, on July 21, the post became vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned, citing health reasons on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.

The Vice President is elected by an electorate, which consists of MPs of both houses of Parliament. The election of the Vice President is ruled by the provisions of Articles 64 and 68 of the Constitution.
