Voters had become a big claim before Sonia Gandhi became an Indian citizen, Amit Malviya’s big claim

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is questioning the Election Commission (EC) special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list. At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retaliated and told how his mother and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s name was added to this list even before becoming an Indian citizen. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said in a post on X that Sonia Gandhi’s relationship with India’s voter list is filled with severe violations of electoral laws. Perhaps this is the reason why Rahul Gandhi is in favor of regularizing disqualified and illegal voters and is opposing special intensive revision (SIR).

Amit Malviya further said that his name first appeared in the voter list in 1980 – three years before he became an Indian citizen and he still had Italian citizenship. At that time, the Gandhi family lived on 1, Safdarjung Road, which was the official residence of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Till then, the voters registered at that address were Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi. He wrote that in 1980, the voter list of New Delhi Parliamentary constituency was amended on January 1, 1980 as a qualification date. During this amendment, Sonia Gandhi’s name was recorded at serial number 388 of polling station 145. This entry was a clear violation of the law according to which a person is required to be an Indian citizen for registration as a voter.

Malaviya said that after heavy opposition in 1982, his name was removed from the list – and re -recorded in 1983. But their restoration also raised serious questions. In the new amendment of the voter list that year, Sonia Gandhi’s name was recorded at serial number 236 of polling station 140. The qualification date of registration was January 1, 1983 – yet he was awarded Indian citizenship only on 30 April 1983. He said: “In other words, Sonia Gandhi’s name was recorded in the voter list twice without fulfilling the need of basic citizenship – as an Italian citizen in 1980, and then in 1983, legally a few months before becoming a citizen of India. We are not even asking what he felt to accept Indian citizenship after 15 years of marrying Rajiv Gandhi. If this is not a big election, if it is not?”

Rahul Gandhi launched a campaign against the “vote theft” by the Election Commission in collusion with the BJP through SIR. He gave several examples to reinforce his allegations that votes are being stolen, duplicate voters, fake and invalid address voters, wholesale voters or single addresses are voters, invalid photos are voters and are misusing Forms 6 of new voters.
