Virat Kohli’s guru and Ranji winning captain Mithun Manhas BCCI’s new ‘boss’, elected unopposed

After the conclusion of the annual general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in Mumbai, former cricketer Mithun Manhas has been officially appointed as the chairman of the board. Manhas was elected unopposed to the post, and he has become the third consecutive president who has been a cricketer himself after Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny.

Manhas had previously been the cricket director of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.

New BCCI officials

Along with the new chairman Mithun Manhas, other key officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India have also been announced. Rajiv Shukla has been appointed as the vice -president, who has widespread experience in cricket administration. Devjit Saikia Honorary Secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been elected Joint Secretary. Treasurer A.K. Raghuram will handle Bhat. In addition, Jaidev Niranjan Shah was elected the only member of the top council, while Arun Singh Dhumal and M. Khairul Jamal Mazumdar have been included in the governance council.

Who is Mithun Manhas?

Born in Jammu and Kashmir on October 12, 1979, Mithun Manhas has been a veteran of Indian domestic cricket, even though he never played for the national team. He was a right-handed batsman, who played off-spin bowling as well as a wicketkeeper. In his 18 -year first class career, Manhas scored around 9,714 runs in 157 matches at an average of 46, including 27 centuries. He often captained Delhi and he was also the captain of the team at the time of young Virat Kohli’s debut. His most memorable season was 2007-08, when he captained Delhi and gave the team the title of Ranji Trophy after a long time. He was also part of teams like Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
