Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt on Monday met Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi for bilateral Foreign Secretary-Deputy Minister talks in the national capital. During the negotiations, the Egyptian and her counterpart confirmed the increasing importance of the Indo-Japanese special strategic and global partnership for peace, prosperity and stability outside the Indo-Pacific region and outside. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the two sides exchanged ideas on the complete dimensions of multidimensional India-Japanese bilateral relations including political relations, defense and security, trade and investment, infrastructure cooperation, technology and people.

He also exchanged ideas on important global and regional issues. This dialogue was helpful in reviewing progress in various dimensions of our relationship, discovering new areas of cooperation and contributing to further deepening the bond of friendship and cooperation between India and Japan. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X, Foreign Secretary @vikrammisri today met Japanese Foreign Deputy Minister Takehiro Funakoshi in New Delhi. The post further stated, he reviewed the India-Japan bilateral relations and discussed the possibilities of extended cooperation. Also, regional and global interest issues were exchanged.

India and Japan share a ‘special strategic and global partnership’. The Ministry of External Affairs said that there has been a long history of friendship between the two countries, which is based on spiritual intimacy and strong cultural and civilized relations. India-Japan relations were upgraded as ‘global partnership’ in 2000, ‘strategic and global partnership’ in 2006 and ‘special strategic and global partnership’ in 2014. Since 2006, regular annual summit has been held between India and Japan (the last summit was held in March 2022). In the year 2022, Prime Minister Kishida came on an official visit to India for the 14th India-Japan annual summit. Both sides agreed to a joint statement titled Kovid “partnership for a peaceful, stable and rich world”.
