Vigilance crackdown on former Congress minister, Brahm Mahindra summoned

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has summoned Congress government minister Brahm Mahindra on February 24 on the charge of having assets in excess of his income. They will be questioned at the vigilance headquarters in Mohali. The vigilance bureau has found in a preliminary investigation that Mahindra and his family members have spent more than their known sources of income in the last six years.

Vigilance has also written to state revenue officials to verify the records of Mahindra’s farmhouse in New Chandigarh and other properties. Also being probed is the role of an officer posted in the Vigilance Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gamada), who worked with Mahindra as an officer on special duty.

Mahindra was second in seniority in the Punjab Cabinet headed by Captain Amarinder Singh. He took the oath of office in 2017. He was Minister of Health, Local Bodies, Medical Education and Parliamentary Affairs until 2022.

Brahm Mahindra is the sixth former minister to be under vigilance in the case of having disproportionate assets. Former minister Sadhu Singh is currently in jail. Former ministers Sham Sunder Arora, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Gurpreet Kangar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu are also under investigation.
