Famous actress and playback singer Sulakshana Pandit died of a heart attack on Thursday. Her brother Lalit Pandit gave this information. Sulakshana was 71 years old. Sulakshana was being taken to Nanavati Hospital when she breathed her last. Lalit Pandit said, “Sulakshana died of a heart attack at around seven in the evening.”She had complained of difficulty in breathing and was looking a little unwell. We were taking him to Nanavati Hospital, but he died before reaching the hospital.

Sulakshana started her career in 1975 with the film ‘Uljhan’ opposite Sanjeev Kumar and then worked with almost all the top stars of her era including Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. His other major films are ”Sankoch”, ”Hera Pheri” and ”Khandaan”.
Sulakshana had a parallel and equally impressive career as a playback singer and sang hit songs like ‘Tu Hi Sagar Tu Hi Kinara’, ‘Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein’, ‘Bekarar Dil Toot Gaya’ and ‘Baandhi Re Kahe Preet’. She belonged to a musical family from Hisar, Haryana. Pandit Jasraj was his close relative.
Who is Sulakshana Pandit?
Born in 1954, Sulakshana Pandit made her Bollywood debut with the film Uljhan opposite Sanjeev Kumar. He then worked with top stars of his era like Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. Pandit, who has topped the charts with her soulful voice, belongs to a family with a rich musical heritage, and both her siblings have made a name for themselves in the music industry. Pandit Jasraj’s niece Sulakshana started singing at the age of nine and her siblings are Jatin, Lalit and Mandhir.
Some of his notable films include Hench, Hera Pheri, Khandaan, Dharam Khanta, Do Waqt Ki Roti and Gora etc. In 1978 she acted in a Bengali film, Bandi, alongside Uttam Kumar. His discography includes hit songs like Tu Hi Sagar Tu Hi Kinara, Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein, Bekarar Dil Tut Gaya, Bandhi Re Kahe Preet, Saat Samundar Paar, Somwar Ko Hum Mile, Sona Re Tujhe Kaise Mileon, Yeh Pyaara Laage Tera Chehra, Jab Aati Hogi Yaad Meri and Yeh Pyar Kiya Hai.

Many tributes poured in on social media condoling the demise of the legendary actor. While fans remembered his evergreen songs, others remembered his films. Former BJP MLA Bharati Lavekar described Sulakshana Pandit on X (formerly Twitter) as “a golden voice that defined an era and a beautiful presence that touched countless hearts”. He further added, “His tunes will remain eternal, resonating across generations.”
