Us Govt Shuts Down | For the first time in six years, the sword of retrenchment on millions of American employees, the funding bill stalled due to lack of funding bill

For the first time in about seven years, the United States’ federal government has come to a standstill due to non -approval of a temporary funding bill by the Senate. The bill, which required the support of both parties, could not be passed by 55-45 votes late on Tuesday night. Due to no compromise before midnight time limit, the government officially came to a standstill at 12:01 am on Wednesday, 1 October. While President Donald Trump increased tension by threatening the new trim of federal employees. Agencies are now preparing to suspend “non-essential” services, which may disrupt air travel, can be delayed by economic reports, and research from laboratories to small business loans offices can be stopped.
Due to not being in the House session and there is no indication of agreement between Republican and Democrats, the possibilities of rescue at the last minute look weak. Senate Republican leader John Thun said that MPs can try again at the end of the week, but there is no sign of the deadlock breaking.

Trump threatened to trim of federal employees

President Donald Trump further increased the political crisis by openly threatening federal jobs. He told reporters, “Therefore we will remove many people who will be very impressed by it. And they are Democrats, they will remain a Democrat.” He further stated that “shutdown could be much better,” and also indicated that they would use this restriction to eliminate programs associated with Democrats.
These threats are coming under the backdrop of heavy upheaval in the federal task force. More than 1,50,000 government employees have already quit jobs under a buyout scheme, which is the biggest such step in eight decades, while thousands of employees have been fired earlier this year.

Political accusation

This deadlock exposes deep differences between Republican and Democrats. The Democratic leader of the Senate Chak Shumor accused Republican of trying to “threaten” the Democrats by putting up the healthcare subsidy and other priorities. After a fruitless meeting at the White House, Shumar said, “Only the President can do this. We know that everything is run here.”

Democrats on healthcare demands

The Democratic leader of the Senate Chak Shumor said that the Republican is trying to “threaten” the Democrats by refusing to negotiate the expansion of the expanded tax credit of the Affordable Care Act, which is going to end at the end of the year. After the voting, Shumar said, “We hope they will sit with us and talk. Otherwise, the Republican will push us directly to the shutdown at midnight tonight. American people will blame them for stagnating the federal government.” Failure to keep the government open means that millions of federal employees can be sent on leave or can be trimmed. After voting, the Management and Budget Office of the White House directed the agencies to “implement their plans for systematic shutdown”.

Biased deadlock in Washington

This existing deadlock has come at a time when Democrats are looking at the opportunity to take advantage of their position to achieve policy goals. The Republican majority in the Senate is 53–47, which means at least eight Democratic votes were required to pass the bill. Republican Senator Rand Paul opposed the bill, complicating the Republican party’s efforts. Democratic senator John Fetramen, Catherine Cortez Masteo and independent senator Angus King voted with Republicans to keep the government operational, hoping that other Democrats may eventually support the bill. After voting, King expressed concern about the “permanent disadvantage” caused by the possible mass trimming. King said, “Instead of fighting Trump, we are strengthening him, and that is finally the reason for my decision.” Thun predicted that the support of the Democratic Party would increase “when he realizes that it is causing defeat for them.”

Preparations for shutdown continue

Federal agencies are already preparing for shutdown. The White House has directed the agencies to consider the “reduction in the number of employees” for several programs, resulting in some employees to be fired instead of sending them on leave. The Congress budget office estimates that if the shutdown starts, about 7,50,000 federal employees can be sent on leave every day. A warpage was shown on the homepage of the Housing and Urban Development Department, which said, “The radicals would shut down the leftist government and cause heavy damage to the American people.” The government is ready for the impact of shutdown on programs, federal employees and citizens, so the bet is very high.
