Washington. The government shutdown in the US has entered the third day and the political deadlock is deepening. The White House on Thursday warned that if the budget dispute persists for a long time, the jobs of thousands of federal employees could be in danger.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Lewitt said that the administration is busy preparing for potential priests. He informed that the budget office (OMB) and other agencies are determining which departments will have the most affected. Leavet blamed Democrats, saying, “This situation would not have arisen if the Democrats had supported the government to keep it open.” He also alleged that Democrats are doing politics on health benefits, especially in the case of non-prompt migrants for whom facilities like medicare have become a matter of controversy.
US President Donald Trump said he would meet OMB Director Ras Watt and review the programs that have been recommended to cut. On social media, Trump described this deadlock as an “unprecedented opportunity” and wrote that Democrats have given him the opportunity to give him a new look to the federal government. He satirized and said, “Perhaps this is his way to make America quick and quietly again.”
At the same time, the administration has decided to stop or postpon the funding of billions of dollars running in Democratic states.
The budget of many departments has been stalled since the budget deadline in the Congress, while essential services are currently going on. Republican wants the current funding to be extended for the next seven weeks, while Democrats are demanding a big political agreement before supporting the new funding measures.
Both sides are blaming each other for this deadlock. Experts say that if there is no early agreement, not only government functioning will be affected, but the livelihood of thousands of employees may also be in danger.
