US Ambassador Sergio Gore will come to India, bilateral relations and trade agreements will be discussed

America in IndiaNewAppointed Ambassador Sergio Gore is arriving today on his four-day visit to India. This will be his first official visit. Gore gave information about his visit during an event organized in Washington DC.
A US State Department spokesperson said that Ambassador Sergio Gore and Deputy Secretary Michael J. Rigas will be in India from October 9 to October 14. During this, both will meet Indian officials and discuss many important issues related to bilateral relations. “The United States and India will continue to work together to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote stability, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” the statement said.
The appointment of Sergio Gore has come at a time when talks regarding a trade agreement between India and America are continuing. There is currently a shutdown situation in the US government, due to which there is uncertainty about the next date and place of the talks.
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently said in Doha that talks are going on between the two countries and it is expected that the first outline of the agreement can be decided by November. He said, “We are in constant talks with the US. Meetings are going on at different levels and soon more information will be shared in this direction.”
Important discussions were also held between Sergio Gore, Goyal and US Trade Representative Jameson Greer during the meeting held in New York last month. But now due to the closure of the American administration, the pace of talks has slowed down a bit.
In fact, America has imposed heavy duty of up to 50% on Indian exports, which has increased the tension between the two countries. At such a time, Sergio Gore’s visit to India is considered very important. Gore, who is considered close to President Donald Trump, has several times described India as America’s “most trusted ally”. He says that strong economic relations between India and America will not only increase the competitiveness of both the countries but will also limit the economic influence of China.
It is noteworthy that America remains India’s largest trading partner for the fourth consecutive year. Bilateral trade between the two countries has reached $131.84 billion in the financial year 2024-25, of which exports from India were $86.5 billion.
Now both the countries are aiming to increase this figure to 500 billion dollars by 2030. It is believed that this visit of Sergio Gore can give a new direction to the relations between the two countries not only at the political level but also on the economic front.
