According to news agency Reuters, Ukraine on Sunday launched a large drone attack on Russian military aircraft, targeting more than 40 aircraft. Ukraine’s Domestic Security Agency (SBU) officials said the attack also included the TU-95 and the TU-22 strategic bombers, which Russia used to fodge long-range missiles on Ukraine.
Irqutsk regional governor Igor Cobzev confirmed that Ukrainian drone targeted a military unit in Ceredney Basti in the Irqutsk region of Russia. Belarusian news outlet Nexta reported that the explosion and dense smoke were seen near the Olenya Air Base in the Marmank region, after which photos and videos were also revealed on social media.
According to Nexta, ‘The preliminary report indicates a possible drone attack. Olenya is one of Russia’s major strategic aviation facilities, which contain aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons. ‘ However, it has not been officially confirmed, but if the attack is certified, it will be one of the most serious attacks on Russia’s military infrastructure since the onset of war.
At the moment, there is no news of anyone being injured or casualties in this drone attack. The attack took place by the Russian military a week after the biggest airstrike of 367 drones and missiles on Ukrainian cities, killing 13 people, including three children in Zitomir and injured dozens.
