Two voter ID card accused, Election Commission sought cleaning from Tejashwi Yadav

The Election Commission has sought evidence of his claim from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, in which he said that his name has been removed from Bihar’s voter list. The Commission has sought information about the voter ID card (EPIC) number mentioned by Tejashwi at the press conference on Saturday.

Election Commission notice

The Election Commission immediately dismissed Tejashwi Yadav’s claim and said that his name was present in the draft voter list. The Commission in the notice sent to him clarified that his name is inscribed in polling station number 204 at serial number 416, whose EPIC number is Rab0456228.

In the notice sent to Yadav, the Election Commission said, ‘It is informed that in a press conference held on 02.08.2025, you said that your name is not in the draft voter list. After investigation, it was found that your name is inscribed on the number 416 of polling station number 204 (Library Building of Bihar Animal Sciences University), whose EPIC number is Rab0456228.

The Election Commission further said, ‘According to the statement given in your press conference, your EPIC number is Rab2916120. According to preliminary investigation, the EPIC number Rab2916120 seems to be officially released. Therefore, you are requested to provide details of the EPIC card (including the original copy of the card) mentioned in the press conference so that it can be investigated intense. ‘

BJP accused Tejashwi

The controversy deepened when the BJP accused Tejashwi Yadav of having a ‘two voter ID card’. Subsequently, the Election Commission sought information from Yadav about the second EPIC number (Rab2916120) mentioned by him in the press conference. The Commission said that this number does not appear officially to be issued and requested them to provide other details including the original copy of the card so that a thorough investigation can be done.

Tejashwi’s claim and technical confusion

The whole matter began when Tejashwi Yadav put his EPIC number in the official mobile application of the Election Commission in a press conference, which showed the error of ‘no records’. On this basis, he claimed that his name is not in the voter list. He had raised the question, ‘My name is not even in the voter list. How will I contest elections? ‘
