Police have arrested two people for allegedly having about five kilograms of hemp and seized this banned material and other goods worth more than seven lakh rupees in Bhiwandi taluka in Thane district in Maharashtra. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.
Senior Inspector of Bhiwandi’s crime unit (II) Janardan Sonawane said that the action was taken on Monday. He said that on the basis of a secret information, a team of the crime branch laid a trap in Bhiwandi and as soon as both reached the spot to sell suspected cannabis, the police caught them.
He said that both of them have been identified as Prashant alias Salad Suresh Taade (27) and Sohail alias Pittal Irfan Ali Ansari (20). The senior inspector said that the police seized 4.827 kg of hemp, a two -wheeler and other valuables which are worth Rs 3.54 lakh.
He informed that a case has been registered against both of them under various related sections of the Swap Drug and Mind -Effective Matter (NDPS) Act at Bhiwandi City police station.
According to Sonawane, in connection with further investigation, the police reached the accused Taade’s house, from where he also recovered an illegal indigenous pistol and a cartridge, from which all the goods seized increased to Rs 7.39 lakh. The senior inspector said that a local court has sent both the accused to police custody for today.
