Two Indian-American candidates lead in Texas Municipal Council elections

In the initial results of the US Texas Municipal Council elections, two Indian-American candidates are leading in their respective cities. Both Sanjay Singhal and Sukh Kaur are in the fray for important city council posts in Sugar Land and San Antonio.

The initial phase was elected on June 3, after which the last two candidates voted for the election (runoff) match on Saturday. Singhal is ahead of his rival Nasir Hussain with 54 percent of the votes in Sugarland’s ‘District 2’, who got 46 percent of the votes.

IIT Delhi alumni Singhal focused on transparent rule, improvement in infrastructure and community engagement. The initial results of ‘San Antonio District 1’, graduated from Stanford and Harvard, are ahead of their nearest rival Patty Gibbons in the initial results. He has got 64 percent of the votes in his account.

Kaur focused her campaign on affordable housing, public transport expansion and inclusive urban development. She lives in San Antonio with her husband and two children. In the event of victory of both the candidates, Indian-American representation under the Municipal Body leadership of Texas is expected to be strengthened.
