Two FIRs registered against election analyst Sanjay Kumar for giving ‘misleading’ information

A senior police official said that the Tehsildar of Ramtek in Nagpur district lodged a complaint regarding the difference in the number of voters in Hingna assembly constituency.

Two FIRs were lodged against Election Analyst and Professor Sanjay Kumar of ‘Center for the Study of Developing Society’ (CSDS) for making ‘false statements in connection with the election’. These cases have been registered against him for allegedly making false statements, sharing voter data on two seats in Maharashtra Assembly elections compared to the 2024 general elections.

Police said that cases were registered in Nagpur district and Nashik on Wednesday. Kumar’s post claimed that the number of voters in two seats in the state assembly elections had come down drastically compared to the 2024 general elections. Both these elections were held at an interval of about six months.

He later removed the post on Tuesday and apologized for posting ‘wrong data’ in another post. A senior police official said that the Tehsildar of Ramtek in Nagpur district lodged a complaint regarding the difference in the number of voters in Hingna assembly constituency.
