Two people have been arrested for opening fire on a 26-year-old man during a dispute over bursting crackers on Diwali night in north-west Delhi’s Keshav Puram area. Police gave this information on Tuesday.
A senior police officer said that the accused Avinash alias Tony (21) and Sunny alias Raftaar (24) have been arrested. He said that the incident took place on Lawrence Road, where the victim Bhanu had gone to meet his grandmother.
The officer said the incident took place around 1 am when the accused were allegedly in an inebriated state and bursting crackers in a public place. When Bhanu and his friends protested against this, a fight broke out, he said.
During this, the accused fired several rounds, one of which hit Bhanu in the stomach and she was taken to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital. A case was registered under the provisions of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) and the Arms Act and a police team was formed to trace the culprits.
Police said that both the accused were soon arrested. Police said that during interrogation, Avinash and Sunny confessed to their involvement in the firing incident along with their partner Zeeshan. Zeeshan is still absconding. At the behest of Avinash, a pistol used in the crime has been seized. Officials said that efforts are on to nab Zeeshan.
