There is a huge crowd on the streets of Turki Istanbul to protest against the arrest of Mayor Acrem Imamoglu.
Due to the ongoing performance in the Turki, the currency Lira reached a record low of 42 against 1 dollar on Wednesday. However, it later compensated most of the damage of the day. Lira closed 2.6% to close at $ 37.665 per dollar.
This has also led to a decline in bonds and stock markets. The benchmark stock index (XU100) fell nearly 9%. This is the biggest decline of four years.
Demonstration after Istanbul mayor detained
The Turki administration took the main political rival of President Rechpe Tayyip Erdogan and Ikram Imamulu of Istanbul on March 19. He has been detained on several allegations, including corruption and helping a terrorist group.
The main opposition party- Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Ozgur Ojel described the custody as a “coup attempt” and appealed to the opposition parties to unite. Ojel said, Türkiye is going through a coup against the next President. Despite what has happened, the party will choose Imamulu as its leader on Sunday (March 23).
At the same time, the Turkish government denied all the allegations of the opposition and said that the judiciary of the country is independent.

Erdogan suffered his worst electoral defeat last year. In the civic elections across the country, the CHP of Imamoglu won in the big cities and municipalities of Türkiye who were considered to be the stronghold of Erdogan’s ruling party-AK party.
