One US MP and two former top officials said that the steps taken by President Donald Trump are destroying the partnership with India. He warned that the “ego” of the US top leader cannot be allowed to destroy strategic relations with the world’s largest democracy.
Indian-origin American Congressman Ro Khanna said that he was shocked by Trump’s work to ‘destroy’ the partnership of America and India. Ro Khanna is also the co-chairman of ‘US-India Cocks’.
Khanna accused Trump of weakening 30 years of work to strengthen the US-India alliance, including imposing 50 per cent ‘tariffs’ on Indian goods, including 25 per cent on the purchase of oil from Russia.
Khanna said that Trump’s policies “are taking India closer to China and Russia”, which is a strategic shock for the US. Khanna said that the ‘tariff’ imposed on India is more than any other country except Brazil, even more than the ‘tariff’ imposed on China, the largest buyer of Russian energy.
He said, “This is affecting India’s leather and textile exports in the US and it is also harming our exports in American manufacturers and India. It is taking India closer to China and Russia.”
Explaining the root cause of the issue, Khanna said that the reason is “very small”. Khanna said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, while Pakistan did so, which made the relations between the two countries (Indo-US) stressful.
