Trump Tarifs | ‘Our relationship with India is very good, but … unilaterally for many years’, Trump defends tariffs

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday intensified his attack on India’s trade policies. He accused New Delhi of imposing the world’s most tariffs and described the long -standing economic relations between the two countries as ‘unilateral’. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said, “Our relationship with India is very good, but it has been a one -sided relationship for many years. Now, since I came to power and due to the power we have, India is charging a lot of tariffs from us, which is almost the most in the world. So we are not able to do much business with India, but they are not doing business with us because we are not paying fools with us. Are.” The US President claimed that India’s trade practices had caused heavy losses to American manufacturers.

Trump’s example of Harley Davidson

Giving an example, Trump highlighted the challenges faced by Harley-Davidson, one of America’s most famous motorcycle brands. He further said, “Harley Davidson was unable to sell his motorcycle in India, as there was 200 percent tariff on the motorcycle … Harley Davidson went to India and built a motorcycle plant and now he would not have to give tariffs.”
He further stated that unfair tariff systems have forced companies to take their production out of the US. However, he also said that the trade policies of his administration, including heavy mutual tariffs, have started reversing this trend.

he addsNow thousands of companies are coming to America … Traditionally, car companies … they are coming from China, Mexico, Canada … They want to build here because, first thing, they like to stay here, and secondly, tariffs provide them protection. And third thing, they want to avoid paying tariffs. When you make their cars here, you do not have to pay any tariff.

India offered to zero tariffs

Earlier on Monday, Trump also claimed that New Delhi had shown a desire to “reduce” trade obstacles. He said, “India has now offered to reduce its tariff completely, but now it is getting late.”
They saidVery few people understand that we do very little business with India, while they do too much business with us. In other words, they sell us in large quantities, which is their largest “customer”, but we sell them very little – so far it has been a completely one -sided relationship, and it has been going on for several decades. The reason for this is that India has collected so much tariffs from us so far, more than any country, that our businesses are not able to sell goods in India.
The post further stated said “It has been a completely unilateral disaster! Apart from this, India buys most of its oil and military products from Russia, much less than America. Now they have offered to reduce their tariffs completely, but now it is getting late. They should have done so years ago. Just some simple facts to consider!”
