Trump has no legal right to levy fees: US court

A US federal court has said that President Donald Trump has no legal right to impose heavy fees on almost all countries. The court, however, retained his attempt to “build a conservationist wall around the American economy”.

The US Federal Circuit Appellate Court said in its judgment that Trump is not allowed to declare a national emergency and impose import tax on almost all countries. The federal court upheld the decision of a special federal trade court of New York.

The judges wrote in the judgment, “It does not seem that Parliament has an intention to give unlimited rights to the President to charge a fee.” However, the judges did not immediately cancel the fees levied on various countries and allowed the Trump administration to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The President has pledged to do the same. Trump wrote on his social media platform, “If it is allowed to remain like this, this decision will really ruin America.” White House spokesman Kush Desai said that Trump has acted legally and “We expect a final victory in the matter.
