US President Donald Trump has decided to give two -year regulatory exemption to coal -based power plants, chemical manufacturers and other polluting industries.
Trump wants to reverse the rules imposed by the predecessor Biden administration, which they consider to be highly cumbersome. Trump issued exemption orders late on Thursday night, describing several industries as essential for national security. These orders will be applicable to coal -based power plants, tachonite iron ore processing units used for steel manufacture and chemical manufacturers helping semiconductor and medical equipment.
The White House reported that these orders are in line with the environmental protection agency (EPA) standards that were before the rules implemented by the Biden administration in recent years. Trump described Biden’s rules as expensive and impractical in many cases.
The White House stated that this step would help “to operate important industries uninterruptedly in support of national security”. Trump’s EPA has been exempted from pollution control rules to many coal -based power plants earlier. At the same time, EPA had also given an opportunity to give exemption to many industrial pollutants by the rules to reduce the emissions of poisonous chemicals such as mercury, arsenic and benzene.
Environmental organizations strongly criticized the proposal and described the new email issued in this regard as a “portal of pollutants”, which can help hundreds of companies to avoid laws made for the protection of environment and public health. They argue that mercury can damage the brain of children and causes the risk of birth defects to the fetus.
