Trump called PM Modi an ‘excellent personality’, said – ‘Soon there will be a big trade agreement with India’

After reiterating claims of India-Pakistan ceasefire talks, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised his relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hinted at a trade deal with New Delhi soon. He described Prime Minister Modi as the best person. Trump said that after seeing Prime Minister Modi, he sometimes wonders whether this is the same person he knows. Addressing the APEC CEO summit in South Korea, Trump said, “Prime Minister Modi is the best looking guy. He looks like he would like your father.”

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi the “best looking man” and described him as a “killer”. Trump was speaking in South Korea ahead of the official start of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. He also said that the trade agreement between India and America will be finalized soon. Trump said during a media address that Prime Minister Modi is very good looking. It seems as if he likes your father. He’s a murderer, his thing… No, we’ll fight… Hey, is this the guy I know? I am doing a trade deal with India, and I have great respect and love for Prime Minister Modi. We have very good relations.

He also hinted at signing a trade deal with India soon. Trump said, “I’m going to make a trade deal with India.” The President described his “great relations” with both New Delhi and Islamabad. He further said, “I am doing a trade deal with India and I have love and deep respect for Prime Minister Modi. Similarly, the Prime Minister of Pakistan is a great man and their Field Marshal is a great warrior.” Later in his address, Trump said he had told both leaders that the US would not make trade deals with the two countries as long as they were in conflict. He said, “I called up Prime Minister Modi and said that we cannot do a trade deal with you because you are fighting with Pakistan. Then I called up Pakistan and said the same thing.”

Trump repeatedly claims to resolve India-Pakistan war

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump had said that “seven brand new” planes were shot down during the India-Pakistan conflict, without specifying which country they belonged to. He once again claimed to have resolved the war between “two major nuclear powers”. Speaking at a reception and dinner with business leaders in Tokyo, Trump said, “Seven planes were shot down, seven brand new, beautiful planes were shot down, and they went after each other … two major nuclear powers.”

The US President reiterated that he used trade to resolve the war between India and Pakistan. Trump said, “I said to Prime Minister Modi, and Prime Minister Modi, who is a very good man, and is a field marshal in Pakistan, look, if you are going to go to war, we will not do any trade.” Trump said that India and Pakistan argue that the war has nothing to do with trade with America. US President said “(He said) One thing has nothing to do with the other. I said, it has a lot to do with the other…the two nuclear powers…We get nuclear dust everywhere. You’re all affected, right? And we said, no, we won’t compromise if you’re going to fight. And within about 24 hours, it was all over. Really, it was amazing.

Trump has previously made similar claims of mediation between India and Pakistan, following a brief military clash in May this year, but New Delhi has categorically refuted the claim and reiterated that the ceasefire between the two countries was bilateral and there was no involvement of any third party.
