President Draupadi Murmu said on Tuesday that true empowerment is possible only by accepting the rights of the people and tribal communities should be actively taking responsibility and developing themselves.
The President was addressing a group of reputed tribal people of diverse backgrounds representing various states, who came to meet them at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
Murmu said, “We all together should work for the creation of a society and country with the active participation of our tribal brothers and sisters, where there is an atmosphere of equality, justice and respect, the culture and traditions of the tribal society are preserved, and their rights are protected.”
He highlighted the need for the use of technology to connect tribal people to the mainstream by preserving their unique identity and rich culture.
The President said that the Forest Rights Act has become an important means of social justice, equality and environmental protection. He said that real empowerment does not come only from plans.
Murmu said, real empowerment comes from accepting people’s rights. It is stronger than respecting those rights and maintains the representation of tribal communities. Tribal communities should ensure their development by actively taking responsibility.
