Train journey will be expensive from July 1! Indian Railways in preparing to increase fare

Years

The railway officer assured that the new fare structure will not have any significant impact on the budget of the passengers. The prices of suburban train rent and monthly season ticket (MST) will remain unchanged, which will provide relief to daily passengers going to work.

Taking an important step, the Indian Railways has prepared to increase the fare of the passenger train for the first time in many years. The revised rates will be applicable from 1 July. According to the report, passengers traveling in non-AC mail and express trains will have to increase the fare at the rate of 1 paise per kilometer. On Tuesday, a senior railway official said that there will be a slight increase in ticket prices in about 13,000 non-AC mail and express trains daily across the country. The fares for AC category passengers will increase by 2 paise per kilometer.

The railway officer assured that the new fare structure will not have any significant impact on the budget of the passengers. The prices of suburban train rent and monthly season ticket (MST) will remain unchanged, which will provide relief to daily passengers going to work. In addition, there will be no increase in fares for passengers traveling up to 500 kilometers in simple second class. However, for traveling more than 500 kilometers in general second class, only half a paisa per kilometer will increase. For example, travel of 600 km will increase by only 50 paise, which is considered very modest.

Earlier in June 2025, Indian Railways announced a significant change. Aadhaar certification will be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets from 1 July 2025. The Ministry of Railways issued a directive on 10 June 2025, stating that the purpose of this measure is to make the benefit of the scheme to the general public and prevent misuse by agents. According to the notification of Indian Railways, from 1 July 2025, Tatkal tickets will be available only to those passengers who have completed Aadhaar verification. Booking can only be done through the official website of IRCTC or app.
