Third Indian women’s cricket team fined against Australia, punished for slow overground in ODIs

The Indian women’s cricket team was fined ten percent of the match fees on Tuesday for slow overground in the third ODI against Australia. Earlier, in the second ODI, the Australian team was also fined ten percent of the match fee for slow over speed.
In the third ODI, host India faced defeat by 43 runs despite Smriti Mandhana’s 125 runs. Australia won this series 2–1 C.
The match referee GS Laxmi of the ICC International Panel imposed a fine on the Indian team which was two overs behind the target at the scheduled time. The ICC said in a statement that, under Section 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for the crime of slow over, players will be fined five percent of the match fees for each over.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sentence so that there was no need for a formal hearing. In the third match, India’s opener Smriti Mandhana created history. Had the Indian team won the match, it would have been icing on the cake.
