Today is the third and last day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka. Today, PM Maho will inaugurate the Omnathi railway line and will lay the foundation stone of the signal system at Maho Anuradhapura railway station.
On the second day of the tour on Friday, PM Modi had bilateral talks with Sri Lankan President Anuraa Kumara Disanayake. During this time Modi discussed the arrest of Indian fishermen and the rights of the Tamil community.
In the evening, PM Modi met the Tamil community in Sri Lanka, paid tribute to Indian soldiers at the Indian Peace Keeping Memorial in Colombo and met the Sri Lankan team that won the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
This is PM Modi’s fourth Sri Lanka tour. Prior to this, he had visited in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
India gave a loan of 2720 crores for Maho-Omonthi railway line development
PM Modi will inaugurate the railway line between Maho district of Sri Lanka to Omnathai district on Sunday. It is a 128 km long section of Sri Lanka’s Northern Railway Line. It passes through Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Vauniya districts of Sri Lanka.
The Government of Sri Lanka has launched several projects for modernization and improvement of this railway line. Indian public sector company IRCON International Limited is working as a development of this section. India has given a loan of $ 318 million (Rs 2720 crore) for this project.

PM Modi spoke to the Sri Lankan President DisaniK to release Indian fishermen immediately and leave their boats. He said that we agree that we should move forward with humanity in this matter.
On the Tamil issue, Modi said that he is sure that the Sri Lanka government will fulfill the expectations of the Tamils and implement the entire rights received under the Sri Lankan Constitution.
At the same time, President Disanayake said-

I told PM Modi that India’s help has been very important for us at the time of need. I have told them that Sri Lanka will not allow its area to be used against India’s security interests.

PM Modi gets a friend Vibhushan Award
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Disanayake presented the Mitra Vibhushan Award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Mitra Bhushan Award is the highest honor of Sri Lanka for non-citizens.
Modi said that this honor is not only my honor, but it is the honor of 140 crore Indians. It is an honor for historical relations and deep friendship between the people of India and Sri Lanka.
PM Modi said that President Disanayake had chosen India for his first foreign trip and I got the privilege of becoming the first foreign guest. It symbolizes the depth of our foreign relations.

Modi-Disanayake inaugurated the Sampur solar power project
In Colombo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anuraa Kumara Disanayake jointly inaugurated the Sampur Solar Energy Project.
Sampur is a solar power project of a 120 MW (50 mW first phase + 70 mW second phase), which is located in the eastern Tinkomali district of Sri Lanka. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India and Sri Lanka’s Cellon Electricity Board (CEB) together are developing it.
The purpose of this project is to meet Sri Lanka’s energy needs, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote renewable energy.
Modi gets a guard of honor, welcomed a foreign leader for the first time at Independence Square Earlier, PM Modi was given a guard of honor at Independence Square. During this time he was also given a salute of cannons. According to officials, for the first time, Sri Lanka has given such a grand welcome to the Independence Square of a visiting leader.
The Independence Square is designed in memory of Sri Lanka’s British rule to gain independence. Foreign leaders in Sri Lanka have usually been welcomed in Rashtrapati Bhavan, Bhandranayake Memorial International Conference Hall.
Modi welcomed Modi at the airport Modi reached Sri Lanka after a Thailand tour on Thursday night. He was received by 6 Sri Lankan ministers at the airport.
It included External Affairs Minister Vijita Herath, Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, Labor Minister Anil Jayanta, Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrashekhar, Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savitri Paulraj and Science and Technology Minister Krishantha Abesena.
A large number of people from Indian community were also present at the airport on this occasion. He raised slogans of Modi-Modi.
