An order was issued by the government on Monday in this regard. According to the ban order, on the occasion of Paryushan festival and Anant Chaturdashi on 28 August and 6 September, slaughterhouses and mutton-chakan shops will remain closed for two days respectively. Earlier, the bright Bengaluru Metropolitan Municipality (BBMP) had announced a ban on the sale of animal slaughter and meat in the city on 16 August on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. Many municipalities in Maharashtra also banned the sale of meat on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15 and August 20 in view of festivals. This has caused political dispute in the state, opposition party NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders call it an attack on people’s food options. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also criticized the order and said that such steps are wrong.
