There will be a ‘Student Session’ in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, children will become CM, Minister, MLA and Opposition!

A special “Student Session” will be held for the first time in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Students selected from across the state will play the roles of Chief Minister, Ministers and MLAs. This program has been started to make the youth aware about the functioning of democracy and motivate them to take positive participation in politics. The government has decided to hold this special session on November 26.

It is worth mentioning that it will be exactly like the original session. It will be chaired by Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan. Applications are invited from school and college students of all districts of the state to participate in this program where they will understand the democratic system.

The Education Department and the Assembly Secretariat will jointly carry out the selection process. Meetings have already been held between the Legislative Assembly Committee and the Education Department. The selected students will get a training session in a few days, which will explain the whole process of legislative procedures including question period, adjournment motions, zero hour and passing of bills.

In this program, one student will play the role of Chief Minister, while some will become ministers, and others will participate as MLAs. During the session they will question the working of the government and discuss the rules of the assembly, just like in a real session. Students will play the role of opposition and ruling parties, ask questions, introduce bills and discuss them.

The main objective of the student session is to give youth a glimpse of democratic values, constitution and legislative proceedings. When students participate in legislative proceedings, they will understand how policies are made, debated, and implemented in the state.
