Patil, who has been leading the party for the last seven years, has cited the need for a new leadership, causing speculation about internal discord, strategic restored or potential future alliances with rival groups.

Sources are telling that Sharad Pawar’s experienced and trusted colleague Shashikant Shinde is ready to replace Patil. It is expected to be officially announced at the state executive meeting to be held at 3 pm on Tuesday afternoon. The change of leadership in Maharashtra’s very important municipal elections is being considered a strategic step. Another contender, Rajesh Tope, along with Shinde, is also emerging, which shows solidarity in the Sharad Pawar camp and the internal search of new leadership.
