There were 1-2 clouds and they also went… Why did cloud seeding fail? Scientist of IIT Kanpur told, opposition surrounded due to lack of rain

The efforts made through artificial rain i.e. cloud seeding to provide relief to Delhi, which has become a chamber of poisonous gas, could not be completely successful. Due to this, there was no rain in the targeted areas. The entire work of cloud seeding in Delhi is being done by IIT Kanpur. The aircraft took off from Kanpur yesterday. By evening the seeding was completed. It was believed that it would start raining within a few hours. However this could not happen. In this experiment of IIT Kanpur, 14 flares were fired. Each flare contained 20% silver, iodide and the rest a mixture of rock salt and common salt.

The recent cloud seeding trial run in Delhi is a collaborative effort between the government and IIT Kanpur to tackle severe air pollution. This test also includes the views of Professor Manendra Aggarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur. Professor Aggarwal said that we have been saying since the beginning that for rain we need clouds with appropriate amount of moisture. Despite not receiving adequate rainfall due to low humidity levels, the experiment is being appreciated as an important data gathering exercise. This was the first time cloud seeding was attempted to specifically target pollution during winter in India. Political questions were raised over the effectiveness of the trial, which cost around Rs 50-60 lakh, but scientists reported a 6 to 10 per cent reduction in PM 2.5 and PM 10 particles, providing a valuable basis for future efforts to clean Delhi’s toxic air.

He said that efforts will be made to make it rain once again. He said that different reports had come out regarding the rainfall forecasts. Some said it would rain. Some said it would not rain. After this our team found that the amount of moisture in the clouds is very less. From this perspective, it was already believed that there would be no rain. Aggarwal further says that cloud seeding will be done through two more flights. First of all, an aircraft flew from Kanpur to Delhi to spray the chemicals. The aircraft sprayed chemicals in several areas of Delhi including Burari, North Karol Bagh and Mayur Vihar. These chemicals were sprayed in eight areas. Each sprayed chemical weighed 2.5 kg and the test lasted for half an hour. This experiment of artificial rain was done to provide relief to the capital from pollution.

Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the government talked about artificial rain to fool the public. There were clouds on 27th October and seeing them, he talked about artificial rain. Scientists have said that as soon as cloud seeding takes place, it rains within 15 minutes, but this did not happen. They increased that time. Not a single drop of rain fell anywhere. He said that when you knew that artificial rain cannot happen in Delhi then why was this circus set up. Crores of rupees were spent.
